And.as your needs changed, you could update the graphics card with ease. with that connected to your new imac pro, you sure could render quickly. It's about $750 plus tax for the whole package (enclosure +8 gig graphics card). It should also work with anything that needs a graphics boost and has a Thunderbolt 3 socket on it, so any recent model of Mac/iMac/iMac Pro/MacBook Pro, etc. You could also get an eGPU and hook it up to your new iMac Pro.
I think the idea of quickness is the key here. So, yes, you want the power, and you need the power. I am not very familiar with V-Ray, but I'm guessing it's graphics intensive, plus you're an architect, or employed by an architectural firm. Yes, you will get greater speed, graphics capability and over-all moxie, but they are not cheap. Your take-away from this is: iMacs are not upgradeable by the user once you have custom ordered them in a certain way, which is what I think Apple does now. Plus, having more cores does help out as well as overall system speed. The most recent models of iMac, the iMac Pro do come with better graphics cards in them *(or at least chips)* than previous generations of iMacs had. Yes, a 6-core 8th generation iMac should be OK, and 16 gigs of RAM should be do-able.

I have read many things but it's a confusing picture due in part to the peripheral connections I will need for Joystick and Bluetooth mouse for which I think I will need some sort of hub anyway I digress, while I know the Macbook has an HDMI output I was just wondering if the iMac could be used in some way as a monitor instead and what would I need to achieve a fullscreen replication of the Macbook I have been impressed with the reviews and feel it has what I need in terms of CPU /GPU power, may seem strange and a bit over the top, overkill in fact, but the laptop is to be used for Fight simulation (namely Xplane 11 initially and 12 when it arrives) anyway was wondering is there a way to make the iMac a second display or mirror at full resolution what is being shown on the Macbook.
